Pickerel, lake trout, splake, smallmouth bass, and pike are abundant on Wendigo Lake. Wendigo is
surrounded by numerous other remote lakes, rivers, and streams which also provide a quality fishery for
various species of fish: pickerel, lake trout, splake, speckle, smallmouth bass, and pike. These lakes
can easily be accessed via boat, portage, ATV, snowmobile or motor vehicle. The winter months at Weekes
Island allow the angler to access remote lakes and some fantastic fishing. No matter what time of year,
Weekes Island offers great angling opportunities.
Weekes Island is amongst several different lakes and rivers in the area that offer unique canoeing
experiences. The availability of these waterways gives the canoeist many options to choose from.
For those feeling adventurous, voyage the Larder River Provincial Park Canoe Route. The Larder
River Route is a series of elongated lakes, connected through fast waters, rapids and waterfalls.
It is an approximately 40km paddle which captures nature at its finest; it is a truly remarkable
look at the quiet, scenic beauty of our northern wilderness. This trip will take you 2-3 days and is
enjoyable for all skill levels; beginner canoeists may want to take advantage of the marked portage
trails while the more advanced canoeist may accept the challenge and thrill of the wild white waters.
Don’t forget your rod on this trip.
